Ski Mammoth Mountain
Wait a second…skiing in June?!? Yup! Mammoth Mountain Ski resort often stays open for skiing until July! Obviously, it is weather dependent, but this year has started off with some heavy snowfall and they anticipate being open until at least mid-June. There are also many options for backcountry touring.
Rock Climbing
There are numerous nearby rock climbing options including: June Lake boulders, Dead Man’s Summit, Bachar Boulders, Clark Mountain sport climbing, Tioga Cliff, Pine Creek Canyon, Owen’s River Gorge, Volcanic Tablelands, Buttermilk Boulders and many more!
Natural Hot Springs
The Whitmore Tubs offer natural hot pools for soaking just 15 minutes from June Lake. The Travertine hot springs are about 45 minutes north of June Lake.
Fishing
There a many lakes, streams and rivers to choose from. Let us know if you need guidance. Maybe you’ll even catch a Golden Trout!
Mountain Biking
Lift access, down-hill and all-mountain biking are available near June Lake!
Mono Lake
Take a free ‘tufa tour’ and see the brine shrimp and unique tufa towers rising from the saline lake, or rent a canoe and paddle around.
Tioga Pass and the East entrance to Yosemite
You may be able to drive up the scenic road to the gate of Tuolumne Meadows, the Eastern part of Yosemite. Yosemite National Park - Tuolumne Meadows will be closed. There are recreation options including hiking, fishing, backcountry skiing, and climbing at Tioga Cliff.
Hot Creek Geologic Site
Hot creek is a unique geologic site where bright blue hot springs bubble up into a cold mountain stream.
Convict Lake
Named for a famous shoot-out between the local sheriff and escaped convicts, this alpine lake is quite a sight. Take in the views of Mt. Morrison and the colored rock swirls of Mt. Laurel on a 2 mile hike around the lake. Next, stop for a cocktail or slice of pizza at the Convict Lake Resort.
Bodie Ghost Town
Walk down the deserted streets of a town that was once home to 10,000 people. A small piece of California’s boom-town history, Bodie State Historic Park has been preserved just as it was when the last residents left.
